WHAT A SENATOR AND REPRESENTATIVE EARN IN NIGERIA

In view of the subsidy saga in Nigeria, it is highly pertinent to consider the pay pack of a Nigerian Senator and a House of Representative member. I believe this will negate any good words that might be used to justify subsidy removal.

A leadership cannot continue to feed fat at the expense of its people ,while preaching for austere disposition from such.

National Assembly,Abuja.

Other allowances expressed as percentages of basic salaries are:

A-Hardship Allowance @ 50%
B-Constituency allowance @ 200%
C-Newspaper allowance @ 50%
D-Wardrobe allowance @ 25%
E-Recess Allowance @ 10%
F-Accommodation @ 200%
G-Utilities @ 30%
H-Domestic Staff @ 75%
I-Entertainment @ 30%
J-Personal Assistance @ 25%
K-Vehicle Maintenance Allowance @ 75%
L-Leave Allowance @10%

‘Hardship allowance and 'Constituency allowance are both approved by Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). It should however ,be noted that the constituency allowance as approved by RMAFC is supposed to be 200% of the basic salary for Senate and House of Rep respectively .But in reality, both Houses are paid far more than that.

And to compound the intricacy associated with such frugal budgetary allocation, there is no extant law put in place that would require any Member of the House to file reports of how the money is spent.
A situation where a State House will make budgeting of about 98million Naira for newspapers alone smells of a down ward and retrogressive administration.

Then, when we consider the President employing about 133 Aides and spending over 700million for the Aides’ salaries per annual, a 12billion Naira budgets for foreign trips for over 400 non-viable MDAs (a civil service sector which has led to the closure of many industries in Nigeria) …

Then we are talking of a very unserious country.
