Zulu king tells ritual dancing virgins to cover up 'because Europeans keep taking pictures of their naked buttocks.

ANCIENT TRADITIONS IN MODERN TIME****April 21, 2011.

Teenage girls in an African tribe have been ordered to cover up during ritual dances because 'perverted' Europeans keep taking pictures of their bare bottoms.
Young virgins have been performing the Zulu Royal Reed Dance for centuries wearing nothing but beads and short fringed skirts.

But now King Goodwill Zwelithini has told the girls to put on sarongs or traditional undergarments called umuntsha to cover their buttocks.

He said the event was 'not for looking at maidens' bottoms.'

The king added: 'There are times when maidens have to sing and dance and we end up seeing certain private body parts that we're not supposed to see.'

Locals are said to be fed up of 'lascivious' male tourists who 'act like paparazzi' and 'zoom in on bare flesh with their high-tech cameras.'

Zulus say their traditional ceremony is being sullied because of the wrong sort of attention from visitors.

Photography at the traditional dances, performed by thousands of virgin girls in Nongoma, northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, is strictly regulated.

All cameramen are supposed to be bona fide members of the press.

But checks in recent years have shown some photographers were just ordinary tourists taking pictures without approval.

The tradition is carried out to pay homage to the king, who chooses his wives from among the dancers.

The dancers usually do not wear underwear because the routine is designed to be a proud display of their innocence.

Zulu girls are said to be angry at being told to cover up because they are losing the chance to show off their virginity in the customary way.

However the ANC Women's League argued other girls were deterred from performing because of the semi-nudity and now would feel more comfortable.

The ceremony attracts more than 25,000 visitors per year.

  1. Call it tradition or whatever but its gross that a man his age (could be any of those girls grandfather) has the right to choose young girls as wives...gross if you ask me...does this fit in the pedophile category?

    1. Don't push your values on others...If you are white, haven't you done enough to destroy the cultures of the world?.For example,Its funny when todays ignorant white people talk Islam being evil, but little do thy know this evil was created by you ,read some history, there was no extremism in middle east before you showed up and started divide and rule.Same in Asia,South America,Africa..in short where ever you people went you destroyed people cultures and values.Even now you are not done..white people bicker the most on the net.

  4. What is "gross" in ones eyes may not be "gross" in other peoples eyes. There is no point trying to pity some people who are at peace with what they are doing. There is nothing to be sad about. This is part of what define them as a people. Care to ask what they also think of other culture, for example western cultures? They will probably think its "gross" as well.
